Parent Youth Ministry
The Annapolis Park Parent-Youth Ministry is a component of the three fold ministry of the Lord’s church. This component of our ministry of edification is designed to strengthen families. This is accomplished primarily by providing spiritual activities in an environment designed to facilitate the strengthening of the spiritual bonds between parents and their children. The purpose is to better equip parents to raise faithful, Godly children in compliance with the biblical pattern (Ephesians 6:1-41 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.
2 Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise;
3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.; Colossians 3:20,2120 Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.
21 Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.; I 2 Thessalonians 2:1111 As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father doth his children,; Genesis 18:1919 For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment; that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.; Proverbs 22:66 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.). Direct participation of the parents in this ministry is key to achieving the goals described above.
What we teach about:
Principalities , powers, rulers of the darkness of this world along with spiritual wickedness in high places are engaged in multilevel attacks on the lives of our children (Ephesians 6:1212 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.). Satan is seeking to destroy their lives before they ever knew what hit them. This ruthless campaign to seduce the hearts and minds of our children is manifested through such mediums as non-Christian peer pressure experienced in their schools and communities, music, television and various internet sources, such as my space, Face book and internet pornography. Sexual promiscuity among teens is a leading cause of increased rates of sexually transmitted diseases, teenage pregnancies, and abortions. Romans 13:1414 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof. states But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provisions for the flesh to fulfill the lust thereof.
Traditional dating is conducive to encouraging intimacy between males and females that God limits to the institution of Marriage. Our youth are not mature enough to resist such pressures and temptations (as few adults are). Such intimate relations are not lawful for them to engage in under God’s laws and in many cases, depending on their age, our state laws (see Michigan statutes). Allowing our youth to enter into relationships that are calculated to inspire, encourage or facilitate sexual intimacy violates (Romans 13:1414 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.). Therefore, the Annapolis Park leadership teaches that young people are not to date until they are prepared spiritually, emotionally, economically and legally to enter into a marital relationship. Such will prevent the above described consequences from coming into fruition.
There is no person who has ever walked the face of this earth who presented himself more friendly than Jesus. Jesus seeks to make every man, woman, boy and girl his friend. However, He has set the standard for friendship with him as doing whatsoever he commands, ( John 15:1414 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.). Anyone who has not obeyed the gospel cannot be Jesus’ friend. If Jesus is the Lord of our lives we will submit to the standards that he has set and not seek to establish our own (Romans 10:3-43 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.). Since we are commanded to let the mind of Christ Jesus be in us (Philippians 2:55 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:), we must have the same standards in mind for our friends that Christ has in his mind. Therefore, in order for one to truly be our friend, they must be friends of Jesus. In other words, they must obey whatsoever Jesus commands. Jesus has commanded all men to repent and obey the gospel of Christ.
